The Newcomer’s Pitfall of Making Money Online

There are an ever increasing number of people coming online around the world. According to Internet World Stats, Internet users has increased in North America to 272,066,000, in Europe 500,723,686 and with a Worlds Total as of December 31st 2011,a staggering 20112,267,233,742 and growing. That’s 32.7% of the world’s population.

So it’s understandable with the ever increasing unemployment and the cost of living rising that many are turning to the Internet to try and making money online to supplement their income.

The internet or the World Wide Web is awash with thousands of what seem quick and easy opportunities aimed at naive and vulnerable newcomers that want to start a home business.

These range from Forex trading to affiliate and MLM marketing with thousands of books and courses on how to sell on eBay and Amazon, not counting the unimaginable amount of how-to books on taking Public domain content to create and sell private-label right products.

In fact a new million-dollar market has grown and been developed for the wants and needs of people wanting to make money online instantly.

Any newcomer to the Internet marketing industry must be fully aware that it is fraught with pitfalls, rogues, and vagabonds, which an unsuspecting newcomer can and does get robbed of hundreds of hours of their time, and money they can ill afford to lose.

This article will look at why somewhere between 90% and 95% of internet businesses supposedly fail in the first few years. Were as in fact the vast majority of those fail in their very first year or less.

Many people who have the honest desire to make extra income or start a home based business online literally jump in with very little or no knowledge of internet business techniques or operational procedures. They don’t fully understand their chosen field, and they have no idea where to start. They are basically hopping blindfolded on a pogo stick through a mine field.

If you want to succeed in making money online whether it is extra income to support your already existing income or start a full time operational business it is very important you start with a solid foundation. You have to have the basic knowledge of internet business operations and a workable business model before you begin; other wise the odds on succeeding are extremely low.

Online Business Model

Many simple yet profitable internet business models you can choose from are being used on the web today.

You could be selling digital products like downloadable videos and eBooks or create your own products; you may find you will start, as many successful internet marketers have, by promoting products created by others as an affiliate or selling physical products like food items, shoes or toys, the list goes on.

It is in no doubt, the major reason any body fails to make money online is because of the compulsive urge to bounce around from business to business, looking for the “magic formula” that will make them the largest amount of money the fastest.

There is no “magic formula” no “silver bullet” no “hidden secret method”. The fastest way to earn money online is to start with a simple business model and learn the skills a step at a time.

If you’re not sure where to start, I recommend starting with a basic business model by getting an affiliate account with one of the major internet retail outlets such as Amazon.

As the system is tried and tested with their unfathomable amount of products they sell, you can surely find the ones that suit you.

This is where you can learn and hone the skills you need to project you onto greater earnings.

For the savvier internet marketer I suggest you create digital products and use affiliate networks allowing affiliates to promote them. As these sorts of products have extremely high profit margins, and are inexpensive to create.

Choose a basic internet business model as a sound foundation and take it forward step by step.

The simplest online business model has the potential to be very lucrative, so to make money online all you have to do is decide which one you are going to use and stick with it!

The Ethical Way to Build a $100 an Hour Online Business (Fast, Fun and Almost Free)

I’m going to start this off with a BOLD promise. And one that, if you’ve struggled to succeed as an online entrepreneur, I don’t expect you to believe.

But that doesn’t make the statement untrue… and if you do your due diligence, you’ll soon see that the promise is 100% true.

Fact: Just about everyone reading this right now CAN earn $100 an hour working from home. It’s not magic. And it’s not necessarily easy. But if you are doing what you truly LOVE and have a strong sense of passion and purpose about your work, it will be the most exciting entrepreneurial journey you’ve ever started… hands down.

The $100 an hour secret is THIS:

There is only ONE contingent of online professionals who do this work full time who have an average hourly income of over $100 her hour.

Some statistics (including those recently published by major news outlets like the NY Times, CNN and others) actually report that the number is higher and goes UP based on the level of specialization you can offer. ($160-$300 +)

The industry is COACHING, consulting and personal services that involve real interaction… often done by email, Skype, small group environments and occasionally (but not necessary) face to face appointments.

Consider this:

If you can find ONE thing to specialize in, and can teach, train and mentor others who want to acquire the very same skill, you can literally write your own income, and you DON’T need to work exceptionally hard to make it happen.

For example – I recently worked with a client who does past life psychic readings over the phone, and in person “regression” readings in her office where appropriate. (most of her business is done over the phone)

Her rate is well north of $200 per hour… and she gets it with ease. (who knew past lives could be so profitable..:-)

She often earns $1000 per hour doing GROUP sessions of 10 people or more in a webinar setting… and while charging less than 50% of her regular rate.

Think this is a rare exception? Think again!

According to the most widely read independent personal service and coaching institutions, the average coach who earns over 6 figures a year ONLY has 5.5 regular clients.

The HIGHEST earning coaches do business and entrepreneurial consulting… many commanding well north of $300 per hour.

I can tell you from first hand experience, you won’t find many affiliates, informational marketers or even online “gurus” who earn that kind of money on average… week over week, and if you have REAL and genuine gifts in what you love, the sky is the limit.

The key is simple.

Start with your passion.

Choose to focus on CONTRIBUTION over cash. And progress over profit.

Be creative and make it about the MATH more than the marketing.

Find a small group of people who will pay you small fees that collectively add up to your target income goal per hour… and then put them all into the same “space” together. (a webinar, a telesememinar, a conference call or if geographically possible, in the same physical space)

When you’ve built up some experience, and some real clients who will sing your praises… you will be amazed at how many people will pay you what you are TRULY worth and how much fun you’ll have doing what you LOVE for a living as well!

Online Article Placement – A Critical Component of Integrated Marketing

Just as in traditional print media, articles placed online beat ads for building credibility and sales by nearly two-thirds, and help to get (and keep) your website at the top of search engines’ results. Online, this means that natural or organic placements beat pay-per-click advertisements or sponsored links listed on the right side of a search engine results page.

Why is this important to know? It shows evidence that online articles are a critical component to your integrated marketing plan.

You can use articles to help you raise your site’s profile in several ways:

Content is King. Make sure your articles – and your website – are filled with keyword-rich content that people searching for would enter into the search engines. While you may sell colorful widgets, you may want to use content that features the words someone might type into Google, for instance.

Update Articles Frequently. Add new articles or blog posts as frequently as you can. Experts suggest updating some aspect of your website weekly, and the easiest way to do that is to add an article. I post additional articles regarding client news and other tidbits. You might use white papers, short articles, or lists/tips as ways to convey helpful information about your area of expertise. It’s more a matter of providing information rather than pitching a sale, so go heavy on the benefits to your potential and existing clients.

Get traditional ink. Your article should appear in a magazine or journal relevant to your industry. Most likely, that magazine has an online version, and your article will appear online. Submit a query letter (a letter of introduction with a pitch on the article topic) or the article itself to the editor listed on the publication’s website. Shoot for magazines that rank high among search engines (the ones that appear on the first page of your search) for maximum exposure, and be sure your article is laced with keywords.

Key in on “About the Author.” In many instances, you will have an opportunity to put a little blurb about yourself and your company at the bottom of your magazine article, plus a link back to your website. Take full advantage of this valuable free promotional space and write a strong blurb that shows you as the expert in your field.

Publish Ink, Then Web. Once the article is published in the magazine, put it on your website to give search engines something to find of current interest. I say “after” because must print publications want First North American Rights, meaning they want it to be exclusively theirs first. After it runs, you can pitch the reprint to other publications. Be sure to get well-produced reprints from the publisher and a PDF for your promotional efforts, too.

Many Online Outlets. There are thousands of e-zines looking for content, and your article may be just what they are looking for to inform their readers. It takes a little digging, but every e-zine has a publisher with an e-mail address and article guidelines. All you have to do is come up with a match. Here is an example of one of many directories of e-zines accepting articles. While in most cases there’s no direct compensation, the free publicity is priceless.

Use Media Releases. If your article doesn’t get picked up by a major magazine, don’t despair. Send out a general media release about the article with a link to the article on your website.

Make it a Product. As many of you know, I believe that creating an income stream from information products is a valid use of time and effort. If you have an article, white paper, or a collection, consider making a product that website visitors can buy for a nominal price. We’ll talk more about this in a future issue.

Integrated Marketing. If you’re in to pay-per-click ads, integrate a pitch in an ad, and test it.

Cross-pollinating online and traditional “off-line” marketing tools will eventually have greater impact than using one method exclusively. That’s why it’s called integrated marketing.
